Groceries off the Grid

A week ago when Bitcoin was hovering around $1,200 I decided to liquidate some of my Bitcoin funds, not into paper…because let’s face it, the Bitcoin economy is growing and I can do just about everything BUT pay my rent and utilities with Bitcoin – and in some places that may even be an option! One of the biggest moments happened right then and there. I logged in to Gyft.com to purchase a giftcard and move my funds around…I saw it, staring me in the eye, the key to survival, Target and Whole Foods gift cards!

It’s no surprise that Whole Foods joined Gyft.com, John Mackey the CEO is very inclined to liberty and has been promoting the cause for years. I think, sometimes a lot of people forget about Target’s grocery section (or maybe it’s only really available at Super Targets), but either way they have a great selection of produce and organic, healthy foods. Did I mention I’m OBSESSED with grocery shopping? So now I get to combine two of my favorite things in the world AND the co-stars of Sovereign Living have a way in to a great grocery store and they don’t even have to earn/use FRN’s to do so.

What does this mean for the future?

As I said, I believe at this point everything can be provided for your basic living needs with Bitcoin earnings, except your rent (although some properties are now being sold for Bitcoin) and utilities. Good thing the stars of Sovereign Living are working their way to energy efficiency…they won’t need to worry about those pesky electric companies that have monopolized markets across the country. If you keep watching the show you’ll find out exactly how they plan to get off the energy grid.

Buying your orange juice and butter with Bitcoin is something I would have never dreamed to happen when I first entered into the “Bitcoin game”, but now I understand that Bitcoin is NOT just a currency it’s a lifestyle choice…a lifestyle choice that transcends the state. What more can you ask for?

Tip of the Week #8 – "Free on Craigslist"

So excited about this week’s Tip. It’s so important to stress that when getting off the grid you need to maximize your potential by reusing and recycling. It will not only save you money, but it helps our environment. It’s so easy and rewarding to find furniture and other household items for free online through Craigslist or by the dumpster after a big move-out. People are usually thrilled to get the “junk” off their hands. I know I’ve been that person before!

I know it’s so cliche and over-used but there’s no doubt that one man’s trash can be another’s treasure. Treasure this Tip of the Week and share with friends, encouraging a day-out to find some awesome additions to your household or farm through Craigslist and garage sales! Some people find it as tacky…but we at the farm find it savvy and resourceful so dumpster dive on!

Anyone have any awesome finds from Craigslist? Share on our Faecbook.com/SovereignLivingTV page!

The Agora at PorcFest 2011

One of the most exciting aspects of the Porcupine Freedom Festival (PorcFest) is the Agorism that takes place between those attending (Agorism is where all exchanges amongst individuals are done on a voluntary basis, without force). People from all over attend this liberty event each summer and more and more are coming to turn a profit – while providing a great example of a truly free market, almost by accident. This year there were people selling shirts, glass pipes, cigarettes, food and offering several other services/goods.

Accept responsibility, take charge of your life, & make freedom happen

This is a speech I gave last January in Odessa, Texas (heart of oil country) during an event called Liberty Fest West. These are the conclusions I have drawn after years of successful political activism and community organizing. I do not claim to know the “way” to live, but I do know most of us are doing it wrong. I have begun the journey toward self-sovereignty. This means I am taking the steps necessary to live independent of centralized institutions. I welcome all feedback, comments critiques, questions, etc… Happy trails!
